Immediately after the election results came in, I contacted my Representative regarding tickets to the inauguration. I was told recently they had over 1,000 requests and fewer than 200 tickets, so they were choosing names by means of a lottery. This morning I got a call from his office - my name had been chosen for 2 tickets! Now my only problem is finding a reasonably priced hotel near D.C. If anyone can give me any information regarding specific towns/cities to try, it would be appreciated. I have never been there and I want to make sure I am in a safe area.

I don't know if you have anything yet (I just started reading this comm). Anything directly in DC is going to probably be really expensive. That said, with the crowds expected, they are encouraging people to walk if possible. In that case, something in Rosslyn might be useful. You're getting pretty close but you might be able to find something. There is a Marriott and a Courtyard by Marriott both close to the bike/walking trail that goes into DC. It's about an hour walk. You can also take Metro but from what I hear walking might take less time on that day.

If you want to get out by a Metro (they say metro will be crazy but it's still better than driving), you might want to try some place in Alexandria. I think that there is a Holiday Inn and a Courtyard by Marriott on Eisenhower Ave, both about a 15 minute walk from the Yellow Line metro station. The nice thing about the Yellow line is that it's a fairly short trip into the city.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Congrats on the tickets.

Congrats! Definitely try something in Baltimore. Otherwise try Craigslist or couchsurfing. Several local residents are renting out rooms/basements/etc for the event so if you don't mind unfamiliar surroundings you should be able to find a good deal.
